I see that quote didn't capture one essential element of the idea.

Suppose you were born exactly 50 years ago. You can look into the night sky
and see events that took place at the instant you were born (by looking at
light that has taken 50 years to reach you).

In some sense, you can see events contemporaneous with your birth.
