That's going to happen over the next hundred million years anyway as the
sun continues its lifetime of brightening and water molecules are
dissociated and the hydrogen lost in the upper reaches of the atmosphere.
Earth will be Venus-like long before the four or five billions years to the
Sun becoming a red giant. The high level of deuterium in the Venerian
atmosphere shows that something similar happened long ago. Also if all the
carbonate rocks in the crust were reconverted back into the CO2 from whence
it came our atmosphere would be as dense as Venus'.
