I don't know what variety they would be. We have the filbert (hazelnut
-Corylus) growing wild in our fencerows, and also the beechnut tree
(Fagus grandifolia) with its tiny 3 seeded nuts. It is a very pretty
tree, in my opinion, but its many-branched habit makes it a trash tree
to loggers.

Sure thing, Maria. :-) I don't know why, but we have different family
names for these related animals. Here are a few:
red squirrel - Tamiasciurus hudsonicus
gray squirrel - Sciuris carolinensis
Eastern chipmunk - Tamias striatus (striped)
Least chipmunk - Eutamias minimus
Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel - Spermophilus tridecemlineatus
Well, at least you can see a bit of family in the tamias. :-)
