Plod = a std term for a policeperson (as in "PC Plod").

Thus MoD police become ModPlod.

Twas I......& no....my brother likes kites. He used to have quite a collection.

This is the beastie:

http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~anthony/kites/rotor/modern_ufo.html

So naturally the open-est windiest place near us is the end of the valley
where it rises up onto fylingdales moor.

So .....we go up on't moor & launch the beastie w/o any concern except
to see how high we could get it/how well it would fly etc.

Up it went flashing away in the sunlight. ModPlod landrover departs the
station, comes through the gates (this is some miles away over the moor)
& starts lurching itself towards us.

We give it no real thought as they periodically do patrols but it comes
straight towards us.

The kite keeps going up.

Eventually a some what as you say "humorless" Plod steps out
& has a go at us in no uncertain terms.

He then helps us pull down our kite & then destroys it, all the time
issuing language which had we issued at him would have landed us in a cell
(let alone a charge of destroying private property).

Apparently we'd taken out their view of the east (we were twixt the station
& the sea) which had upset people all over the world.

I have yet to suggest these kites to CND etc. as a protest via mass flying
of these kites might be fun. Of course then they'd make flying a kite
anywhere on the moors into a criminal offence so....
