A fascinating concept, something I've thought about for decades. Just
think, if YOU were plopped down in the wilderness, given food and shelter
and nothing else, how long would it take you to make a [insert name of
technological miracle here]? Okay, you know how to make a telescope and
everything in it. Even if you didn't have to devote any time to staying
alive, how long would it take to find sand, clean it, make a hot enough
fire to melt it, cast it into a slab, find appropriate minerals to use as
grinding agents, polishing agents, gather pine sap to make into usable
pitch.....oh, yeah, and make the TOOLS it takes to do simple things like
drill a hole in a piece of wood....makes "A Connecticut Yankee in King
Arthur's Court" look like a cakewalk.
* Best regards, Bob
