| subject: | Watch weather channels for...weather info? |
From: Mike N. The weather sections of each of the local TV stations have their own dedicated HD channel for 24/7 weather and radar info. Like MTV leaving music, the classic cable "Weather channel" has long ago moved on to do everything except weather - with weather as a small sideline. I find the local doppler weather displays to be useful when a storm front comes through - you can get a sense of how long the storm will be there, and if the worst has passed. So on a weekend afternoon with a sudden intense afternoon thundershower, I took a look- Channel A "Triple Doppler Super Radar" - showed 3 impressive looking radar scans. However with a rather large storm front everything was crystal clear. Clearly a case of lost communications - they just played the last image they had with the 3 radar scans animating. Useless. Channel B - No local weather radar scan - a news ticker and a general afternoon forecast. Later on, they have a local radar shot in a 2" X 2" square during an ad. Channel C - No local weather radar scan - they do have the national weather service severe thunderstorm warning bulletin on a ticker tape. Later on, they preempt the weather warning ticker tape to run a local news ticker. Conclusion: They create a fine presentation on storm progress when the weather department is manned. Otherwise, the best bet is a National Weather service radio channel paired with an internet view of the weather radar. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
