The clan starts at the family.  It includes "unit cohesion"  and
other temporary agglomerations. Its highest expression so far is probably
the nation-state, which may be a trifle abstract for weak minds. (Pardon,
pretty-please, for this un-PC mention of Progress.)

Why is it that One Worlders, the Stateless Person of 19th century Euro
literature, the pan-national Proletariat, and Star Trek 1 seem so alien?
