(Background: I haven't owned a car in 11 years (I rent cruddy ones), and my
last ride was a 280SEL4.5, which unlocked and started with a key.  Car
alarms, however, are the bane of our existence in these concrete canyons,
which make near-perfect acoustic transmission lines at 3 a.m.  Rent-cars
usually don't have alarm, though they do have keyfob transmitters. I have
some newbie questions.)

o Are the damned alarm systems aftermarket in Blighty?  They are here. o Do
Beemers/Bimmers/IGFarben-2Raeder'n, etc. actually come with them from the
factory?
o Do most have disablers, rather than just making noise?  Tilt/bump
sensors? o Do most have those hair-trigger jostle sensors that get jostled
all night by parallel-parking bumper-car enthusiasts, thus motivating a
legion of formerly shy milquetoasts to don a bathrobe, take their elevators
to the street, and slash all four of the offender's tires?
