Agreed... powerful MODEM CPU will take load off the main CPU for other
more important tasks... and a 286 IS powerful for a Modem... :)

Unless of course, the modem can be had at almost the same price as the
regular V.34+ and is DSP based so that you can easily upgrade to ITU
standard... mine USR Courier was a early V.34+ model, and now with the new
firmware, is running 45,333 bps with my local X2 ISP (have not dropped
below 42,000 bps) download at 4000 to 5000 CPS IS NICE... :)
