Oh, neither am I. I was surprised that the nurse or counselor or whoever
it was, at Leona's school, told her that the school might have to pay
for treatment if they even suggested that the student might have a
disability. This seems like nonsense to me.
I wonder if the nurse-type really meant something more along these
lines, but expressed herself poorly:
If we have another student diagnosed as LD, then we will be expending
more school funds on him (through the programs currently in place in
most school systems for helping this type of student in school).
Of course, it didn't sound that way in the post. It sounded more like
the nurse thought the school would have to pay the doctor's bills and
the perscriptions for Ritalin, merely by virtue of a school employee
_suggesting_ that the kid might be ADD. This sounds utterly preposterous
to me.

Intersting. You know, I just try to be truthful and tactful. A few
months back I was calling parents in the evening from home, and my
husband was surprised to hear me tell a parent, that "perhaps he is just
lazy and not trying very hard". He was shocked at my use of the word
"lazy". I thought I was calling a spade a spade, and no sense skirting
the issue.
