One way to "fix" Windows 8, is to upgrade to 8.1 (which allow you to boot directly to the "Desktop" and not to the tiles. Then download/install this: www.classicshell.net You will think you are running Windows 7 again. :) I did all of this in my Windows 8.1 VM as a test, and was pleased with it.
