Heard a news item the other day that apparently a number of other countries
are considering switching from the dollar to the Euro.  That will be extremely
bad news for the US economy.

And one consequence will be the inability of the US to control the currency 
used in international trade.

When enough countries make such a switch the dollar will no longer be as 
welcome overseas as it has been since at least WW II.  And there's a
tipping point someplace that will relegate the US dollar to a domestic
currency - like the Zimbabwean dollar or the Russian ruble.
