Maybe so, but before the air got too bad to support said
bird he was nicely limited with his clipped wings.  WHen you and I were
small we were told that American ingenuity and
know-how, that can-do attitude was what built this country.
We were on the leading edge of technology.  Within a decade
we went from nothing for a space program to setting boots on the moon.  OUr
people were healthier, our outlook for the
future brighter.  Then came energy uncertainty, and the
folks on Maddison avenue telling us to forget about being
producers and doers, forget all that and be consumers.  They told us in the
newspapers, on television, "the American
consumer ... "
A shift in attitude toward oneself which is not good.
