And, as I found out here at the office one day, Portable Apps (the
system from portableapps.com) *will* run in Safe Mode.  Was having
issues with a laptop at the office, and booted it up in Safe Mode so I
could run Chkdsk and the like on it.  Ran a defragmenter on it, and it
worked just fine in Safe mode.

There are some great trouble shooting tools that run just fine from a
flash drive/external hard drive.  They've helped me straighten out
systems on more than one occasion.  That's why I still have my external
hard drive with Portable Apps loaded on it, and I keep Portable Apps
updated.

I actually just this past week turned my ex-wife on to Portable Apps.
She's looking to take some online classes, and had bought her an 8GB
flash drive to carry her stuff on.  I got her set up with the Portable
Apps suite.
