US and AUS fittings and cables must very very different, but here's some of

preferences that might be translated-
* soldering where possible, is very durable
* screwed or twisted connections are best greased lightly first with 
aseline-
to deter corrosion and reduce local heating and resistance
* for economy use common twin [110/220v] plastic flexible leads, with the 
win
conductors paralleled. Thus there will be two- at least, twin flexibles
feeding the load
* in a vehicle, do not rely on body steel earthing but run a second lead from
the battery negative to each load or load centre.
* keep leads and cable runs, really short
* for heavy loads and long runs, be prepared to run extra heavy conductors.
This will point you toward the sort of cable used on trucks- not economical,
