Heard something like the following procedure out of the corner of my ear 
while hanging around a shop the other day: Take a magnet in front of the 
screen and run it around the screen in circles, pulling away in a tightening 
spiral. When you get fairly far away and in the center, pull the plug. Put 
the magnet away and see if that helps.
No guarantees, and as I said I may have missed part of the procedure, but...
