subject: OLD EVY GAS TANK

Hi Dal,
Hold out for a metal tank! The old two-hose rig "pumps" fuel to the
engine by pressurizing the gas tank with air, thereby forcing the
fuel into the engine. This rig was eventually abandoned by OMC because
of its inherent danger - every time you opened the tank to refill, etc.
the pressure forced a tankfull of fumes atmosphere - destined for the
bilge because few were the boaters who took the tank to the dock
first... Suction pumps are now universal.
Although the plastic tanks are pretty sturdy, I wouldn't want to
pressurize one intentionally. I always leave the vent open slightly on
the ones in my garage to keep the pressure neutral. -Skip
