I personally don't use the Mail Shield or the Web Shield and I turn off 
Grime Fighter, Browser Cleanup and Software Updater.
I think it was GrimeFighter that caused the problem.
And YES, I believe Avast WAS the problem and others should be aware of the 
problems that Avast can cause. But, it is a great program overall, as long 
as you don't let it delete or uninstall everything it wants to.
