The problem with the Motorola Lifestyle / Avtek Flashmodem was that the
default setting was to train on High Bit Error Rate, and *not* to retrain.
If these settings are changed to train on Medium Bit Error Rate *TH1 and
retrain on Medium Bit Error Rate %R2 (and &R0 for hardware
handshaking), the modems will happily maintain a connection for days on end
whereas a pair of Dataplex DPX-225-01's would spontaneously disconnect
after a few hours.
