American Veterans M.I.M.
M.I.M. means "Missing In Membership".
Long ignored for membership in veteran's organizations are many vets who have
been denied or excluded for a variety of reasons. The most excluded group has
been female veterans. This tradition must now end because the number of veterans
continues to decline by thousands each month and no veteran can be wasted if
veterans are to retain some degree of political strength to ensure our Veteran's
Administration and all levels of government, from local to federal, are
veteran-minded.
Today there are about 21 million veterans with about forty-one percent over 48
years of age. In five years the veteran population is expected to drop to 11
million. Spread out over the entire country this is a very small number. That is
why EVERY effort must NOW be made to seek out and invite veterans in your
community and at your job to join together.
Existing veterans organizations are being asked to work hard to open their
memberships to every veteran living in their community even if it means
temporarily dropping membership fees or extending a welcome to veterans not
previously admitted for various reasons.
To help veterans who already manage a Veteran's Organization (VO), or to assist
veterans thinking about starting their own VO, The War Library is now
re-organizing its 71 million listing database (online since 1988) by Zip Code so
that you can locate veterans living in your area to send membership invitations
for your VO: http://www.amervets.com/library.htm.
(If your name does not appear when you search The Database by Zip Code let The
Library know immediately or list yourself here:
http://www.amervets.com/registry).
We all served and stood together in Peace and in War. We should not be separated
after taking off our uniforms.
If you manage a VO you can extend a welcoming hand to other vets whoever they
are and no matter their service. It you wish to start your own VO you can do so
in your home, at your church, at a municipal civic center or at your workplace.
OPEN YOUR DOOR TO ALL VETERANS!
