Noted - thanks for the step-by-step!

Nothing near what you have. It was just sort of cobbled together and
handed over to me. Our company (Apogee/3D Realms) has never had a
full-time sound person before, so we're starting from scratch. I'm
starting somewhat from scratch myself: my title is Music and Sound
Director, with emphasis on the music part. I'm a composer who finally got
the break he's been looking for for the past 15 years, and the sound
effects duties just came with the job. However, now that I've got that
responsibility as well, I want to make sure I do it *right*! ;-)
Anyway, I digress. Here's the current studio rack setup:
Fostex 260 4-track tape recorder/mixer (doing mixer duty only)
    Alesis 3630 comp/limiter/gate
    Alesis M-EQ 230 equalizer
    Alesis Midiverb IV
    Tascam PB-32M patch bay
There are also two other pieces of external equipment that regularly get
routed through this: a Roland SC-88 SuperCanvas and a Harmon-Kardon CD
player. Power for the rack comes through a Juice Goose 8.0L.
For recording purposes, output is directed into a DAL CardD+ in a dedicated
PC-DAW machine (P90, 16MB, Seagate 2GB Barracuda, AHA-2940 SCSI-2 PCI, and
SAW Plus for software).
Several changes are about to be made to the rack. The Fostex 260 will be
replaced by a Mackie 1402-VLZ, and the Tascam patch bay will be replaced by
two dbx PB-48s. A Korg DTR-1 rackmount tuner goes in tomorrow or Friday,
and a Sony TCD-D8 is in the works for DAT duty (not really rackmount, but
it's adequate for what we do). We're also going to be routing an old
vocoder through the works. Finally, though not really a true piece of
audio hardware, a Music Quest 8Port/SE rackmount MIDI bay is going into the
rack.
Like I said, we're still putting things together, and I'm still learning
how to use them. I just want to make sure that I'm doing it right. Thanks
for your (and everyone's) help!
