Please read and observe the following abbreviated rules of
this echomail conference. We try to remain as loose as
possible here, but the high volume of traffic (over 100
messages a day on the average) necessitates some degree of
control.
============================================================
* This echomail conference is called HS_MODEMS. It is
strictly for discussions on and assistance with modems
that connect at 9,600 bps or faster. Discussions
concerning sub-9,600 bps modems or telecommunications
software, when the latter does not directly involve a
high speed modem, should be moved to the COMM echomail
conference, available from the same echomail
backbone that feeds this one, or to a specific support
echomail conference. If your host system operator does
not carry the COMM echomail conference, ask him to pick
it up for you.
* HS_MODEMS was created by Tony Wagner of 1:105/2.0. Tony
Wagner is the Moderator of this echomail conference, and
makes all final decisions accordingly. The Co-Moderator
of this echomail conference is Dave Raymond of 1:3603/200.
Please direct any complaints concerning this echomail
conference to either Tony or Dave via netmail only; do not
use the conference itself to complain.
If you do not have netmail access, check with your host
Sysop. Most will relay netmail even if they don't permit
users to access netmail directly. If all else fails,
find another Fidonet system that will allow you to send
netmail.
* No flames, test messages, chit chat messages, political
postings, or any other off topic messages will be
permitted. Do not respond to any such messages via this
echomail conference.
* No excessive usage of high ascii characters, please.
They are known to cause problems with non MS-Dos
computers and older MS-Dos mail handlers. Excessive
usage would be defined as using solid lines to highlight
quoted portions of messages, the drawing of figures using
lines, etc.
* No posting of Sysop deal or dealers' prices. The former
have generated numerous complaints from modem vendors,
distributors, and dealers. Since they have absolutely no
application to any non Sysops, and since Sysops have
access to their own private echomail conferences, the
Moderator of this conference has declared them firmly off
topic here. The latter are proprietary information
between a modem vendor and his distributor or dealer net;
they should never be discussed in any public forum.
Doing so may very well violate a dealer's agreement with
his supplier and may subject a dealer to legal action as
well.
* No buying, selling, or soliciting to buy modems in this
echomail conference. Please limit all such activities to
an echomail conference that permits such activities. One
such is HST-SALE, available from the same echomail
backbone that feeds this one. Do not reply to an offer
to buy or sell via this echomail conference.
* English is the required language for this echomail
conference. Do not reply to message written in any other
language via this echomail conference.
* Please limit quoting of messages by eliminating all
information that is not needed to emphasize your response.
Please be sure to eliminate all origin lines or signature
lines unless they relate directly to your response. This
echomail conference is very expensive to carry; reducing
space as much as possible is one way to lower that expense.
* Aliases are banned from this echomail conference.
Exception: You may include a signature line with your
full name if you use an alias to post your messages.
If you have a legitimate reason to use an alias without
signing your real name, NetMail me an explanation, along
with your real name, and I will consider waiving this
restriction.
* Please modify the subject title of a message if your
reply will significantly alter the original topic thread.
Please try to make sure that any modem being discussed in
the body of the message is mentioned in the subject title.
This rule is to assist those who scan subject titles
looking for assistance with a particular modem.
* Personal mail belongs in NETMAIL [fido] or E-Mail
[Internet]. Personal mail is defined for the purpose of
this echo as any message/comment NOT directly related to
a modem problem or information on a modem.
============================================================
In this echomail conference, we use a warning system. this
is what the system consists of:
* First Offense - Polite note, usually in the conference,
sometimes via indirect netmail (depends
on the circumstances).
* Second Offense - Official warning. You will receive
this warning via the conference and
direct netmail. A carbon copy will be
sent to the fidonet system you receive
this echomail conference from.
* Third Offense - Thirty (30) day suspension from this
echomail conference. You will be
informed of this via this echomail
conference and direct netmail. A carbon
copy will be sent to the fidonet system
you receive this echomail conference
from. A violation of this suspension
results in immediate and absolute
expulsion.
* Fourth Offense - Expulsion, indefinitely. if you return
from your one and only suspension period
and violate the rules again, you will be
permanently expelled.
If you are a user, all of the above still stands. however,
concerning offenses two and three, the sysop of the fidonet
system you posted the offending messages from will receive
the carbon copy.
I don't like to cut feeds. As long as the expelled
user/sysop does not post messages in this echomail
conference, they may read/carry this conference. However,
if they post following expulsion, a feed cut will most
likely take place. Sysops are advised to cooperate with
the moderators of this conference in assuring expelled
users will not post. This will eliminate the necessity of
any feed cuts.
