subject: Summer break??

CG> This reminds me of the Bronx in NYC, along I-95. Last time we drove
own
CG> to VA Beach to visit with my father and his wife, we took notes and had
CG> our daughter write out a small report later on, after our trip. We
on't
CG> homeschool, but this was such a great lesson in itself. It reinforced
CG> memories in everyone and we found that we all remembered different
things.
ZR> That's great!! I really wanted to get my kids to do the same, but on
ZR> our vacation we were so busy /experiencing/ that /none/ of us had the
ZR> patience to sit down and /write/ about it!! :( I'm hoping that when
ZR> we get the pictures developed, we can write our memories down.
My daughter and I flew solo to KS a few years back. Well, 'solo' being
that of being without the rest of our immediate family. (g) We did SO
much that I had her write down her experiences. This reinforces the
memories and writing skills. My grandmother was blind and we didn't
take pictures on the trip there, so we were able to share our trip there
with her when we reached her house. We stayed for a week and a half and
were SO busy that we filled a small notebook with all of our experiences.
My then 4 yo son destroyed my film and pictures shortly after I got home,
but we have our written passages (somewhere... ;>), and our memories!
I got permission from her teacher to pull her out of school early and
she was told upon her return that for extra credit, she had to write
a report about her trip. Luckily I like writing about things, so this
habit came in handy for her!

ZR> I also buy a lot of postcards in hopes that they will help the kids
 ZR> with future writing projects...
I picked up oodles of postcards when I went to Martha's Vineyard, minus
husband and kids. Someone stole my camera while I was there, so I had
these to share with the kids. The Bluff Point Cottages are worth
checking out, but some how couldn't describe them to the kids! They
look like cute, brightly-colored, giant doll houses. Luckily they're
splattered across pretty much *every* postcard I brought home!

Just out of curiosity, how do you pronounce your name and what does it
mean? I hope you don't my nosiness, but it's very unusual! :)
