MF ->The past time I've read some questions and replies about
->"internal error 999". Today a client of use called with the
->same error. He moved to a new computer and suddenly the
->problem appeared.
RP> This error almost always indicates that some function needed for
RP> maintaining an index hasn't been linked into the executable. He hasn't
RP> somehow mixed up .exe versions, has he?
I've spent some time checking out things, so it took a while before I could
react on your answer.
It's not possible that the cli‰nt mixed up versions. He only has 1 floppy,
and he used it to install the program on both the computers.
MF ->Has anyone a clue how to solve this problem? The application is
->made in Clipper 5.01, using Blinker 3.20.
RP> First off, I'd get the free patch to upgrade to Blinker 3.30 and
RP> seriously consider upgrading to Blinker 4.10. I don't know if this'll
RP> help at all, but you're using a linker version that came out before
RP> Windows 95 came out. Check out http://www.blinkinc.com for the patch.
Okay, that's a thing to try. But the older computer was also running W '95.
And the older computer didn't give the error. And the same goes for my own
system, I'm using W '95 (as well as many other cli‰nts).
So I don't think that this should result in this error.
Any other clues??
I've read some other stuff about the 999-problem, but that al seems to be
fine on this program.
- It isn't a really small program (EXE-size about 700 Kb)
- Start using Blinker instead of RTLink. Well, I'm using Blinker.
- The problem may occur when linking incremental. It's an official cli‰nt-
version, so of course it's not linked incremental.
Maybe the problem is the speed of the new computer? The cli‰nts new machine
is a 200 MHz MMX -PC.
I'm running on a 150 MHz machine without any problems.
If any else besides Raymond knows "the answer", please feel free to react
as well, because I really like to keep this cli‰nt running.
And he doesn't like the answer: "Start using slower computers again".
