| subject: | Modem Speed? |
William Brackenridge. All. Modem Speed?. You know the drill. WB> I have a 386 with an ordinary Serial Port. Currently, I have a WB> 2400 modem and I am thinking of buying a faster one. Could anyone WB> tell me the maximum speed of modem which would work with my computer. In theory, the best you should get is 19200 bps from your serial port. 19.2 kbps modems are hard to come by so you'd best try for a 14400. If you are friendly with your shop keepher, take your machine (or serial card) to the shop and try it on a 28.8 kbps. In my experiene, the old ports didn't work reliably at 38400 or above. You could also try upgrading your serial card (very cheap these days.) * AmyBW v2.11 * ... ERROR 1: Keyboard not detected.
