NB>> Was there any actual updates to the code, or are you just making it NB>> available in other places? RC> Yes... (The answer to that depends on which versions you're RC> referencing, as there has been both some code changes as well as RC> doc/build system changes...) I haven't heard about anything done to it recently. Good to know. I'll have to start following it again. NB>> I remember a couple things that bugged me when I tried it in NB>> the past. The description not displaying properly was one of them. RC> I recall there being a discussion about that but don't recall where it RC> was. (Don't now recall if I was seeing the same issue...) I believe the discussion about it was held on Micronet. Sean had contacted Michael for me because I had some questions and bugs for Tinytic I wanted to try to address. At that point in time Michael had mentioned his C skills were very rusty, and I don't think the bug I pointed out was ever actually fixed. If you want to see the bug in action, take a look at any of the Fidonet file announce echos. When you see one posted by Tinytic, you will see it right away. The descriptions, after the first line, wrap to the beginning of the next line, rather than starting on the same column the first line of the description started. So any kind of ascii read from a file_id.diz gets garbled and doesn't look the way it should. If I can remember any of the other quirks/bugs that I had pointed out in the past, I'll definitely let you know. Tinytic is a great lightweight tic processor for people that don't have to forward files to anyone else. NB>> Back then I had contacted the original developer, which did a quick NB>> fix for it, but it didn't work. RC> I don't recall if I saw how that 'fix' was done... Me either. The the point of that was that it wasn't fixed anyways, so it didn't really matter much. I don't even remember if Michael did a version bump or anything at that time. He was just trying something to see if it worked, it hadn't, and then he disappeared. So if you haven't done anything in regards to the announcement descriptions, then the bug is most likely still there. RC> Do you by chance still have it set up, so you could test with the RC> current version; or at least which version you were using and perhaps a RC> pointer to how you were using it? (If it's still an issue, will need to RC> get a ticket opened...) No I don't, unfortunately. This was at least a couple years ago. If you have the current version installed, just process something like an ANSI pack that contains a file_id.diz longer than one line, and you should see the bug I'm speaking of.. Then again, if you don't have it setup, just take a look at any of the Fidonet file announcement echos where Tinytic is used. You'll see it right away. If that were to ever get fixed, I may very well give it a try again, since I'm setting up another BBS in a VM that will doubtfully feed any other systems. But we'll see. I'm not going to hold my breath or anything for something I reported and tried to fix a couple years ago. :( Regards, Nick --- SBBSecho 2.20-Linux* Origin: thePharcyde_ telnet://bbs.pharcyde.org (Wisconsin) (1:154/10) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 101 620 848 @PATH: 154/10 123/500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
