Indeed but even if we assume his conjecture is correct, I fail to see 
the outcome as a bad thing.  Let's assume they weren't there and by us 
going into Iraq we drew them in like flys to flypaper and we defeated 
them soundly, brought stability to the Middle East, improved our 
security and liberated 20+ million people.  If true, then I would say 
that is a brilliant approach and near the top of military 
accomplishments in US history.  They get defeated and we didn't have to 
go all over the globe chasing them down.  Flypaper has been around for 
many years.  Some folks just don't see its value.
