subject: Car Radio and Antenna

-> This may be slightly off topic, but perhaps someone can help me. I
-> drive an old Chevy pickup with one of those wire-in-the-windshield
-> antennas. The radio is a real cheapoe. The reception is so bad that
-> I am thinking of really working on this, possibly even spending some
-> cash.
-> I think an external antenna should be first. Does anyone know if
-> there is any appreciable difference between any of them, say between
-> something I would buy from a junkyard, or buy at radio shack, or
-> perhaps there is a hi-gain model somewhere. Do car antennas break
-> down with age?
  If yuo are talking about just a fixed stic kon the Fender most likely
it will be as good as New if it isnot somehow physicaly damaged. For
electric antennas I woulkd not take the chance on a used one. And they
are al lbasicly the same with the only point worth making is that the
Longer they are the more sensitive they are on AM reception.
-> Beyond this, do any car radios likely to be found in junkyards have a
-> reputation for quality or should I go buy a new one if the antenna
-> doesn't improve things enough?
The chances of a radio being damaged in a wreck is slim in a collision
or most other events that send a vehicle to a wrecking yard. You should
get a Gurantee that the radio works though. Most already taken out and
are on the shelf in a Wrecking yead have been checked out.
