It appears that I was the one who missed something, or just made an
incorrect assumption on the basis of the inability to "reconcile" a
cash account. There's no good reason not to be able to reconcile
any/every type of account and have the cleared transactions dropped
at year-end, just as everything's cleared in a regular set of books;
and I don't know why Intuit was selective in this respect.
