That's exactly the problem.  Because the stores will sell fewer copies of the
software, the software company won't make as much money.  As a result, they
have to increase the prices that the legitimate users pay in order to keep
that level of income.  Think of it this way - The programmer's want to get
paid, the graphic artists want to be paid, etc. etc.  You tell me what the
company is supposed to do to be able to pay those people (let alone make a
profit) if only a handfull of copies of the software are sold because of
piracy.
