I don't really like the drastic changes in the Windows 8 UI either.  I can
undersand them wanting to provide a similar experience on PCs and mobile
devices, but I still don't think it makes sense to trim down the UI so much for
desktop PCs.  It looks flat and simplistic - it feels like going back in time
20+ years.  In some cases, I think it's downright ugly (for instance, Visual
Studio 2013).
