I've never seen Sauer claim to have worked on Sidewinder missiles. And
a week or so in tech school is just about enough time to learn where the chow
hall, latrine and orderly room are, it is not enough time to develop any significant
knowledge of the subjects being taught.

IIRC Sauer's claim was that he'd 'worked on' A-10s, not that he was a fully
qualified A-10 mechanic or a specialist on any of the systems used in the A-10.
Wiping the dust off the canopy, once, fulfills that claim, even if it's done on a
static display. One could consider the claim misleading, and perhaps it is, whether
intentional or not, but it is not necessarily *false*. The claim or inference that
he *never* worked on A-10s is at least questionable and is, IMO, false; it takes
only one contrary example to disprove blanket statements ('always,' 'never,' etc.).

Insofar as Hardegrees retirement is concerned, I simply note that I don't recall it
being mentioned in either of the two gatherings in Springfield or the 1999 gathering
at his house, although the fact that some of us at those gatherings were retired
military (me, CW4 Yoha, LtC Humphrey, MGSgt Helm) and former military (Capt
Hardegree, PO Hull) was discussed, but not at much length.
