Replying to a message of Ross Sauer to Ed Hulett:

 RS>>> The electoral college is outdated.

 EH>> In what way?

 RS> Gives too much repesentation to smaller states.
 RS> I say go to direct vote, whoever gets the largest numbers of votes,
 RS> gets the office. Just like the House and Senate.

Remember that the prez and veep are elected by the states, not by the people.
While that would work with either one or two votes per state, the founders
weighted the college toward more populous states by adding votes based on each
state's population, which is why Wyoming has three votes and New York has (or
had) 27.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, one can count the votes in almost any precinct
in the country three times and get three different sets of totals. There
are God only
knows how many precincts in the country. *THAT* is the problem with directly
electing national level officials, you can't watch all the voting places;
you *can* watch
one Electoral College.
