Hi Russel,

RB> Problem is that when I (ALT-ESC) flick from one program to the next,
 RB> It affects each program.

First, some questions:

  1. Are you running the OS/2 version (Maximus/2) or the DOS version
of Maximus? I strongly recommend you change to the OS/2 version.
If you are running the DOS version your machine will run much
smoother using native OS/2 code compared with DOS code. The
performance difference has to be seen to be believed.

  2. I am not familar with Terminate but its my guess that you are
using the DOS version. Are your DOS apps configured to run in
background or to stop processing when you switch away from them?
I suggest you try a native OS/2 comms program (such as TE/2) to
see if the problem still exists.

OS/2 does a VERY good job of multi-tasking DOS applications, however
because of the time critical nature of communications work, multiple DOS
comms tasks can load an OS/2 system too much to allow good performance in
the DOS sessions. In these cases it is much better to run native OS/2 code
for comms work wherever possible.

I have been running OS/2 with Maximus/2 on 4 lines since 1992 (the BBS
started with OS/2 1.3 and Maximus/2 1.02 about 2 years before
that..........;-)) and all lines run fine with no performance hit
regardless of how many of the 28k8 lines are doing downloads. The machine
was a 486SX25 with 16MB RAM running OS/2 2.1 until about 2 weeks ago when
it was upgraded to a 486DX2-66 running Warp Connect, simply because it now
needs LAN connectivity and a bit more grunt would be handy. If it was not
for the LAN needs, then the SX25 would still be in there. Performance on
the SX-25 was really excellent!

I hope this helps................pk.
