The list has discussed evaluating the result of polishing many times, and the final
test is to check the edge of the mirror with a X10 loupe under bright light
conditions. You look for the presence of tiny pits and surface roughness.
If the
mirror is smooth and pit free around the edge, then it is time to first optically
test the mirror and see what kind of a surface has resulted from your effort. The
additional polishing time to figure the mirror will only improve the surface quality.

Once the mirror is coated any small imperfections in the polishing will stand out
strongly, and probably be accompanied by the dreaded form letter saying
"incomplete
polish". That's something I've never received, and I work hard not to.
