Smart move! (IMHO, anyway!) When my girls have wanted to try something, such
as ballet, gymnastics, etc., they have to agree to a full year of that thing.
First off, I didn't want them quitting the first time they found out
something was hard. They have to give a new thing a little time before they
decide if it's "for" them. A school year is a good amount of time. After a
year of ballet, and a year of gymnastics, both girls continued their lessons
this year. Now we are going thru this commitment with Jennifer. She wants to
learn clarinet and play in the Band. I rented the instrument for 9 months.
As a music teacher who has taught other things, it irritates me when there is
no commitment. I've had kids (and adults) take four or five lessons in piano,
voice, dance, and decide "I don't like this". Then they quit. I don't know
how they could tell whether they liked this in that short of time!
