I just did a left double-click on one of them thar things lying around and the
file manager doover fired-up Abiword (v3.0.0), showing a real nice, clean, view
of the doc. Note that Xubuntu is my preferred GUI, BTW.

what does yours do?

Yes.  It works nicely in a VirtualBox... still.  Been over a decade now.  :)
