subject: Problems with Dynalink 1428VQE.

Hi everyone,

I am getting offset errors with my amiga mailer (Trapdoor) when I am
connecting with Noel Robert's BBS, "Far Northern News".

I have no idea *what* might be causing this, but trapdoor only logs
"uncorking stuck sender" in it's logfile, and then not for every file that
has the errors during transmission.

The actual error message is "error - wrong offset" or "error
- incorrect
offset".

It is mostly mail that is being transferred, and I would like to find and
fix the problem. My sysop says he would like it if my mailer prog supported
hydra. Does anyone know if this would improve transfers that are 99%
1-way, and if so, how?

Playing a slight hunch, I hauled Telstra out to test the line, and they did
report that the line was unbalanced, and the technician that examined
everything said this meant there was a short somewhere. Apart from that,
and lots of testing, all he did was replace a wall socket, free of charge.
:-) It did appear slightly fuzzy, as if some corrosion had gotten into the
contacts on the screw terminals inside it. Dunno if it's fixed the problem
though, but the errors seem to appear less often. :^)

Also, what init string would you recommend and what port speed should I try
setting my 68000 Amiga 2000 at? I have been told so many different answers,
and I'm not sure what would work, anyone got something that might work?
I'm open to ideas... I do know my Amiga won't handle the 28.8K connect
capabilities properly - not fast enough, and I can believe that, as the
init strings seem to get turned into gibberish whenever I try it! :^(

Dynalink technical support seem to recommend the one they've always
recommended, I also would like to know of any command to make the modem
spit out it's hardware chip numbers, or whatever. I read that USR's can do
this, can my model Dynalink do this too? It is almost ONE YEAR old now, and
I was wondering if perhaps there's a upgrade that would work for it?

It has flash ROM downloading instructions in the manual, does this mean it
would work without chip replacement?

It list the firmware as MCU firmware in the manual, is this important? I'll
probably need a flash downloader to do this if it can be done, who can do
it for me?

If I can't fix this problem, I think I'll go and get a Banksia modem or
similar, and see if there's any difference.

Messages suggesting I should replace my Amiga with a Pentium or whatever
can be sent to the NIL: device. :-) Flames too. :-)

Cheers...
