Hello JIM.

Try to look in your BIOS-Settings. Perhaps youïve got the chioce to disable
the option _scondary_ide or _secondary_drive_present. Then win95 wonït look
for other devices anymore.
Please remove the msdos device driver from your config.sys. win95 may fall
back into the compatibilitie mode an this slows your system down. win95 looks
for cdrom-devices after working up the config.sys anyway. I think it makes no
sence to install the drive in the config.sys.
Try it.
Ciao
Andreas
