Hello All,
Can somebody identify these thingies that were planted by former
owners of this property?
1/3 of the garden area is filled with 3-4-ft-high onion-looking
plants. Stalks are 2 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter. The bulb is only
slightly larger than the stalk. The purply flowers on the top of
the plants yielded clumps of bulblets which now are about the size
of a shallot, and have 6-8 inches of green stem growing up from the
bulblets. Healthy-looking!
Heeellllp! What are these things? Are they edible? If so, which part?
Are they tasty? And when to harvest?
About a year or so ago someone here asked about a similarly-behaving
plant....yoohoo?
Another third of the garden area is horseradish! And there might
have been some rhubarb before the horrendous weeds took over. No,
I didn't know the people who, quite a number of years ago,
carefully separated the areas with scalloped concrete dividers
(which now are good only for turning the ankle) then planted this
perenniel garden...thank goodness, I think.
Any insight will be appreciated, thanks.
