Jeff,
Lately, there has been something that resembles the old "woodpecker"
sweeping the 6M and 440 bands. It has hung my 6M repeater several
times. The 440 is not affected due to the PL, but it is still there.
I understand that, when it is there, it is very strong on the north
end of SA than here.
To add more problems, I read where JPL and others are serious about
using the 430-440 band for the satellite based radar ground mapping
project. More RF pollution!
You should try riding around with 6M in the car. It is amazing just
how much trash there is in the city making 6M (and 2M at times)
almost useless.
