| subject: | Line Quality/Netcomm Roadster |
G'Day Peter, PC> -= Pete Replied to Doug Loggie about: Line Quality =- PC> G'day Doug BG>> Some brands are capable of having their Tx levels physically set BG>> as high as -9dBm, but that can actually be detrimental under BG>> certain conditions. It's best to let the modems sort it out BG>> amongst themselves IMO. I think you might find that they have a BG>> much better idea than you of what levels they should be using BG>> than you do. :) PC> You mention you have a Roadster in a msg to Ian, I only have experence PC> with the Netcomm Smartmodems but they have the documented %Ln command PC> to set the transmit level used as AT%Ln where n=-dB, loudest setting PC> it think is around -11dB, You could also try the undocumented #T PC> command as in AT#Tn with n=-dB, This command doesn't seem to have a PC> upper limit built in so Tx levels of -9dB and -8dB seem possible. PC> Note Ian and Bills advice that louder isn't always better so if they PC> work on your Roadster use with caution. Thanks for your reply Pete, this echo is really quite a good area to pick up on techno help,, I've heeded Bills advice, and my modem can achieve 28800 connects on a different line (I set it up on a mates line, which I think runs through a different exchange, and it ran beautifully,) so now I face the uphill task of convincing Telstra that I have a line problem. The friendly serviceman tells me that he only guarantees a line speed of 2400 baud, and if I'm getting 19200, or 21600 I should be getting excited!!! Hmmm?? I'll have to think about that!! Thanks again, and sorry about the long delay in replying Cheers, Doug Loggie --- Terminate 4.00* Origin: Doug's Place-The home of the serious form student!
