I have the Legacy Powered Impact Plus subwoofer. It recently was
upgraded from 200 to 300 watts, and twice the current of the previous model.
On the modification I got a second heat sink was attached to (stacked) atop
the first unit, a second breadboard added with one channel each as opposed to
both channels on the same board, and the MOSfets seperated, one on each heat
sink above and attached to each board.
Made a GREAT difference. Far more than the 1db I should have realized
from the 100 additional wattage. I guess the doubling of current was the main
accomplishment.
I haven't yet heard the Carver subwoofer. But as usual, anything with
the Carver name or that Bob Carver has had a hand in ends up being
controversal. I have several of his units. I like his preamp/tuners, sonic
holography (if you take the time to set it up properly), the tubed output CD
Player, and five of his amps, and have served me well, indeed. Nothing
special about his cassette unit. At least not the one I had.
The rear sub that I want to employ would in theory enhance the "rear"
bass in Dolby Digital. From what I have read, the rear channels are suppose
to be full range. So, in theory, there should be bass material directed to
the rear channels that might not be in the front channels. How much will be
there is a good question. I have asked a couple of engineers working on new
rear channel full range loudspeakers, and they have no idea what will
actually be there. I guess it will depend on the recording. But if it is
there, a rear sub would enhance it for Home Theater apps. Too flakey??? Your
opinion/comments are definately invited here!!!
Sorry, having some system problems and I lost my Qwk Mail Offline
Reader so was unable to quote your last message.
Cheers, John
