subject: wireless extension cord..

AA> EO> ...Also, I wonder how the receiver is powered..?
AA> EO> Imagine the irony of having to use batteries in a receiver for
AA> EO> that - and then when said batteries die, you lose power? Or
AA> EO> maybe the receiver plugs into a power outlet for power? :P

AA>There is technology being developed to "power" small
devices wirelessly. I
AA>have read about successful field/lab trials at distances of about 20 to 30
AA>feet. I believe that the no-contact battery chargers for some phones use th
AA>basic technology.

No contact charging has been around for some years now. When I worked
in the engineering Department of hte loclsa VA Medeical center in the
80's the IVAC Electronic Thermometers were that way. Just drop then into
the base charger. There was a coil of wire in the base and another one
inside the thermometer. In effect a transformer. The effeciency is
fairly low and the range is very short at 60 Hertz. The range and
effency can be increased by raising the frequency but to get ranges of
20 to 30 feet one is talking about microwave frequencies. As mentioned
in another post not exacticaly smart to radiate the old brain long term
with microwaves.
