While digging in the garbage looking for blackmail material, I found this:
It seems, on 02 Aug 96 16:39:00, that Pete Hopping and Rich Willbanks
were talking about alt power for base scanne.
Now I have them!

I think he's refering to the ANLI Power Station. That's what I use here.
The Quantum is a nice little beltpack sized thingie that works great for
portable use. It has power lights to let you know the charge level.
The ANLI Power Station is a BIG HEAVY battery pack. It has a analog meter
on it. It may be "portable", but it weighs a zillion pounds. Great for
-home- use anyway or portable when you have someone else carry it.
I use it for my camcorder when I'm out on long shoots.
At 8 AmpHours it'll run an HT, scanner or camcorder for A LONG TIME!
In fact (besides the 3, 6, 9 and 12 volt connectors) it has external
power connectors on the back that you can actually jump your car off
of. Once or Twice. If the car battery is just low and not close to dead.
>Check with the larger ham dealers.
Amateur Electronics carries both. 1-800-558-0411
>they may be sufficient
>to run your base scanner for a few hours.
Pete: define "a few". I've run my Bearcat 8900XLT for a couple DAYS
off the ANLI. Guys have run 100 watt -transceivers- off of the ANLI.
For a little while anyway.
The nice thing about the ANLI is that it's charger is completely automagic.
You can leave it plugged in all the time and just run your stuff off of the
ANLI. It will charge as needed. Kinda like a little UPS.
