While tripping merrily through the mail, DAVE HALLIDAY was overheard
DH> Couple of thoughts - is there a cancellation mark on the back of the
DH> check or does your bank statement show the date when the moneys were
DH> deducted from your account? If this didn't also happen on Dec 4th,
DH> that bank is in serious KimChee...
DH> I don't know who the actual people to contact are but there are both
DH> state and federal regulatory agencies who deal with this sort of stuff
DH> on a regular basis.
In some states the postmark on your envelope is the date that the debt
must be considered paid. You can get a "certificate of mailing" from
the Post Office showing that you had the payment in the mail by the
due date. Check with your local Attorney General or State's Attorney's
office for the law in your state.
DH> Some things cannot be dealt with - I heard of one case where a bank
DH> would take a stack of checks and process the biggest ones first. This
DH> was so that if the account ran out of money, they would have a number
DH> of smaller ones bounce - each with their own bounce fee - rather than
DH> process all the small ones and run out of gas on the big one.
I had this exact thing happen to me. After an exchange of letters with the
Bank's main office and a rather "heated" discussion with the manager of
our local branch, my only recourse was to close my account and seek another
bank.
They actually had the gall to claim that their customers PREFERRED
in that way.
Don
... Work your fingers to the bone and wadda ya get? Boney fingers.
