I think that's how a -lot- of BBS-related code over the years has
disappeared over the years, myself included.  It's not fun.  I remember
reading an ad in Home Computing many, many years ago, sandwiched in between
all the code listings in the back of the magazine, for "The
Programmer's Towel".  Its schtick was you were supposed to cry on it
when you irrevocably lost your code. :D

What stinks is having to restart all over again from scratch when you know
you've done all of that work before.  That's irked me several times even
with my simple programs!

No problem.  That's why it was a "gentle" reminder. :) 
Thankfully, I rarely have to put on my moderator's hat in any of my echoes
anymore.  I just poke gently with a sharp stick every so often, heheh.
