I stand corrected.  1999-2001 is a particularly fuzzy period for
me.  I purchased an XP eMachine (1.7GHz, 512MB ram, *no* cd burner, 40GB
hdd for $599) about a year after the ME purchase. So.. since XP was
released late 2001, it stands to make sense that I spent $1500 in 2000, not
1999.

Nevertheless, the PPC G4 was released in late 1999.  So, at
$1600, and later scaled back to a 350MHz cpu without a reduction
in price is pretty ambitious.
