I didn't know that, I thought whatever time I last edited a message stayed
with the .REP packet I send to my BBS.

I think the sites I read have Technical information, not gossip.

I've read a comment that doing that would prevent Edge from giving any

I saved the older copies of WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI by using SaveAs and
changing the INI Extension to numerals, as in WIN.001 for the first time
I saved it and incrementing the number each time I saved another copy of
the WIN. file.

When I was curious to see if there were any changes I would use the Command
FC WIN.INI WIN.001 | MORE
to show me what changes, if any had been made.

I used the numbered Extensions with the SYSTEM.INI file too. Worked for Me.

This computer works but I don't think it works as it should.
At least I still can Send .REP packets and Read .QWK packets and do Email.

EV> (or use the two HP Restore DVD I made the day I first turned it On),

HG> Well, if you use that, you'll have to re-install all programs you have

Yep, that's why I said above I would make one more Full Backup before doing
that.

EV> In the years following I have read that a person ought to make a

HG> That's where an image or clone come in.

I didn't know to do that back in 1994 when I got the 486DX33 built or back
in 2006 when I bought this XP computer.

Before that time when all I had was a Commodore 64 PC I made copies of
the programs I used and filed the original Floppy Disk away and used
my back up copy to run the program.
I figured if something got written on the Program Disk that changed how
it worked I still had the Original stored away.

EV> I tried doing an Incremental Backup but decided if I am going to

HG> AFAIK, an incremental backup does only change/update the previous
 HG> backup

Yes, it only writes changes it finds on the computer since a backup or
the last incremental backup was made.

Yes, a Incremental backup takes a shorter time to do, but if ever I would
have to do a Recovery I would have to Recover the First backup and EACH ONE
of those Incremental backups I had made to get the computer Restored.
That sounds to me like too much trouble, so I decided if I want a Backup
I will make a Full Backup, then if I had to Restore this computer I would
not have to jump through many, many hoops during the Restore session.

But that's Me.
the

If I were able to find that setting, before I'd do any changes to it,
I would make a Full backup to fall back on, if needed.

It is 23:20 when I saved this message.
