You might be able to get away with expressing that which you had as regards
the validity and virtues of UPS installation in (almost) any other conference
area (local or echoed) BUT this one ! That was _my_ `main point' in my last
message to you.
You weren't "wrong"...but neither were you "right"...
ED> I know my personal circumstances better than anybody, and NO ONE here
ED> has "walked in my shoes" to know any different.
Granted, yet at the same time, you had never before prefaced any of your
earlier messages with the provisio that you "were coming-in with a personal
opinion"; instead, you led us all to think that you were "putting-down" the
merits of UPS installation, and that you shared with the rest of us an
interest in SOHO affairs as a player to a SOHO venture. THAT'S what really
led to 27 others giving such "adverse" response...
ED> Not to lay any guilt trip on you, the last of my family passed away
ED> this year. So there's no one to "hint" to as you suggest.
Just the same, I'm sorry to have to read of your personal misfortune. Again,
I offer you my apologies for having (seemingly) "come down" on you so
rsely.
ED> If I want something, I must buy it myself.
It's the same situation at this end, really. The difference is that instead
of whinning about it, I find a way to get what I need (as opposed to what I
"want")...and to "make it happen" !
(Personal offside:) I enjoy several hobbies, two of them being Ham Radio and
photography. I would _love_ to run the `leading edge' gear available for
either, except for this small matter of affordabilities. I _know_ that
equipment alone doesn't always make for excellence, so I _effect_ much that
same excellence through _my_ efficiency of use of the equipment that I do
have available here. I must own the world's best "collections" of modified
station gear and gizmoed cameras ! The results that I seem to constantly turn
-out (from time to time) has been described as "rivalling the best" within my
own balliwack.
There really is not much to the guts of a UPS. Little more than ten years
go,
I designed and built my own imitation of a UPS to protect some CBM computers
that I owned at the time. Really, what I had done was to (extensively) modify
an old AC-sensing emergency lamp that had been given to me by an electrician
friend of mine. It didn't take that much effort to find a few relative
examples of schematics from some electrical engineering textbooks at the
library, to guide me. I still have that first "UPS" (gathering dust) in my
basement today...
My point in relating all of the above information is to assure you that
where
there is a hope, there is a way". I'm sure that if you really feel that there
is an importance of any nature for you to have a UPS, that you too, will find
a way to getting one. It is my hope that the stories I've related here will
give you some inspiration in this end.
ED> I've said it once, I'll say it again...I THINK MY PC's ARE
ED> SUFFICIENTLY PROTECTED, GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES. Please drop the
ED> issue, everyone.
Okay, okay ! I've dropped it ! But next time, please do remember where it is
that you are writing your messages to !
